Beat The Yips!

by Kiel Alderink
Problem

You struggle from 4 feet in. The reason most players struggle from 4 feet in is they will tend to "guide" the ball into the hole. When you try to guide the ball into the hole, you tend to move your center (head and sternum) which changes the bottom of the stroke. With this motion, you will be very inconsistent with contact and direction.

The Drill

Place a ball marker just inside the ball. Practice hitting putts from 4 feet. The objective is to keep your eyes on the ball mark instead of the ball. You want to keep your eyes on that mark until the ball stops rolling, or hopefully goes in the hole.

The Solution

By keeping your eyes on a different point, you will learn to let the putter head swing freely rather than having the urge to force it in a certain direction. By letting the putter head swing freely and keeping your center still, you will make more putts from 4 feet and in.
